Haha! Not self-conscious so much as informed by Viola's own memory of feeling totally overwhelmed by Aather at first.

Viola likes Sakura! She thinks she is really nice and really sweet and handled being new really damn well. She does not really understand why Sasuke is going all AVOID AVOID AVOID MOPE AVOID, but, at this point, she's just going to shrug. SASUKE'S LOSS; she will just hang out with Sakura if he's not going to. |Db Plus it's more excuses to hang out with Turquoise in general, and she likes Turquoise a lot.

Speaking of Sasuke, since I didn't see that anywhere (maybe I wasn't looking hard enough), what's going on there?

The canon 'going on' is that Sasuke ran away years ago to train with Evil McEvil pants and Naruto and Sakura have spent years trying to bring him back, despite Sasuke repeatedly telling them he gives zero fucks about them and/or trying to kill them.

I don't know what memories Sasuke has actually, but he apparently has enough to know that he's not someone Sakura should care about.

Sakura knows she's supposed to know Sasuke and that they were likely friends, from what Naruto's told her, but she's thrown off in that assumption by Sasuke not even mentioning he knew her, when she got here. At present though, she's gotten Sasuke to agree to being her (quiet, grumpy, reluctant) friend until she remembers why she shouldnt be.

Which is hilarious, since the other thing Sakura doesn't remember right now is that she once loved him enough to do anything for him, including running away and being a traitor, if he'd take her with him.

What does Hermana think of being a Knight?

Being a knight is the best ever; being MAL'S knight is the best ever.

This wasn't always the case! I apped her as a knight because I did want her to get that kind of parallel to canon, where she's a tiny thirteen-year-old girl who is in a position of responsibility far beyond her age, but it means that she's gotten some strange reactions. Back when she was in Sterling, she didn't really manage to connect as hard to any of the Sterling knights and she wasn't as personally invested in the job.

Being Maleficent's knight, on the other hand-- she feels pretty close to most of the other Onyx knights (even when they are making ridiculously bad decisions hello Sasuke) and she feels she has more of a directed purpose instead of struggling to find her own even when the teams don't necessarily want her to help them in her way. She's a lot more comfortable and stable and more confident and still loves helping people but is more willing to accept it when they don't necessarily want her help because she'll just find another way.

In what ways do you think Turquoise treats Sakura's strengths/weaknesses differently than canon? So far, I mean.

It's terrible, but so far it's like "uh well they acknowledge that she's actually, you know, there" WHICH IS COLORED BY ONE OF MY BIGGEST PEEVES ABOUT THE SHOW -- the female characters do not always get the best development :x

One of the reasons her Sasuke memories are largely locked is because I want time to establish her as a character on something other than "that girl who is in love with Sasuke".

So so far Turquoise has been really good at encouraging her-- knowing that she doesn't really have any skills or memories right now, but that she has the best of intentions and she's trying.

So what went into switching from Sterling to Onyx?

Oh, gosh, a lot. She was told at the beginning to put a lot of thought into her decision, but all her close knight friends were on Onyx and Mal was the one who gave her the name "Viola," so it was always a thing! But she liked Beauty, and maybe things would have worked out on Sterling eventually, because she was getting some inertia in not switching.

But then came the Lion knight game, in which… maybe a third? of the knights died, and the Lion didn't revive them. The one who ended up reviving them was Maleficent. Pretty much immediately after that Viola was like okay, I am not dying again without having done what I wanted and pestered Mal until she was accepted on Onyx. And now she is the happiest.

I am running out of questions, hmm… Is there anything you want to do with Sakura at some point, aside from developing her without it being… she is a female character in Naruto and treated accordingly?

I want to get her to learn a bunch of different skills that she might not necessarily know in canon -- it seems like it would be fun to explore different pathways and such!

I am surprised I have lasted this long at questions, really; I'm usually terrible at them :x
